Fun In Mexico
Wow, that was fun. Of all the world regions I have been fortunate to visit in the past, the Mayan Riviera ranks really high on my LOVE list. Weddings in foreign countries are always a challenge. Our team never has much time to scout out locations and we’re always battling the lack of sleep and high-intense work environment, but we love it! From the cold concrete of New York City to the hot sand of the Mayan Riviera, the flight was fast and had us in Mexico in 3.5 hours.
If you hang out with me long enough eventually you’ll hear someone refer to me as Scuba Steve. Back in 2006 I made a personal trip out to Mexico to just dive. I dove the reefs of Cancun, the underwater canyons in Belize, though what impressed me the most were the cenote caves of Tulum. Frequently featured on Discovery or National Geographic channel, the water found here is said to be the clearest in the world. A natural underground freshwater river system runs underneath the entire Mayan Riviera region and can be accessed via these cenotes, translated in English as sinkholes. Fast forward to months before their wedding, Jan and Terrence were ecstatic at my idea to photograph in this unknown world wonder.
With the help of our contact in Mexico, Priya, Kosuke and I were able to capture some of the most exciting images we believe that we have ever taken. At moments during the photoshoot I would take a moment to myself to realize how blessed I felt, doing what what I love for a living… traveling, diving, photographing, I never thought any of this was at all possible a few years ago. Last but by no means least, we hit our passion and the following morning captured them in their designer pajamas, a great end to a wonderful shoot.
