MJ & Myung | Gild Hall & Battery Garden, NYC

Chic, classy, fun! MJ & Myung rocked the world in front of my camera with a fun 2 days of photography. They started with their rehearsal dinner at a quaint restaurant in the West Village. The next morning we moved on to Gild Hall to get ready for the big day. Despite the rain, sleet and snow, we got to Battery Garden just in time for a gorgeous ceremony overlooking the foggy Hudson Bay.I love the Village. The character of this neighborhood always calls for calming strolls and kind of serves as a getaway from the loud city. Ivy covered brick, brownstone townhouses, wrought iron gates adorned with year round Christmas lights… If I had a chance to live here, I would.Myung bought a handful of vintage-styled jewelry pieces from shops all throughout the city. Her bridesmaids held up various pieces to their ears and necks to see what looked best.

Though MJ had has Paul Smith threads re-tailored, he decided to have a custom suit made for each groomsman.

Despite the little snowfall that fell in NYC the other week ago, this winter has been a very warm and dry one but that wasn’t the case for MJ & Myung. They had their wedding on Halloween weekend. If you all remember correctly, it snowed that Saturday. It was the earliest recorded snowfall in NYC history. It’s a good thing Gild Hall gave us the chic-factor that Myung was looking for as her backdrop for photos. The only hiccup we ran in to was that Desperate Housewives decided to tape in the exact section of the boutique hotel that we wanted. We had to improvise and so we settled for what was available. To me, the backdrop does help but I focus the core energy of my artistry in my subjects; everything else always falls in to place soon after.

Audrey Hepburn’ish. Quintessence du chic.

You can’t really tell here but this was actually the Ceremony Hall turned Reception. The staff at Battery Garden knew what they were doing and their attention to detail was impeccable. The last photograph for the evening took a bit of planning and it got a little wet. It was freezing outside as I had MJ stand underneath an umbrella for some test shots. The heat from his mouth filled his left side as he stared straight in to the camera for a classic snow-in-newyork shot.

2011 at a glance | Happy New Year!

2 Thousand eleven!!!   We want to thank all of our clients and friends for their support this past year. You all made this another amazing year for Studio Saldana and we couldn’t thank you enough! We photographed from Taiwan to Mexico and all over the United States. 75,000 miles in the air, 5000 on the ground, and somewhere around 80,000 clicks on the camera.

Next year you may find us in the Caribbean and possibly even as far as Dubai. Check back with us often as we dive head first in to 2012. We have about 3 months until the wedding season starts again. Until then, you can find me on a mountain with my snowboard as I cruise to the tune of the slap of my shutter. That’s a wrap!

Wilson & Christine | Rockefeller Center Proposal

I got an email from Wilson a few months ago asking for some help to photograph his surprise proposal to Christine, his girlfriend. They both flew all the way from Jakarta, Indonesia for the holidays and Wilson knew it would be a trip they would never forget.

It had been about a year since I was on ice skates so I had to get comfortable on the ice again. I showed up an hour early and the crowds at Rockefeller were intense! Thousands of people lined up to look at the tree or ice skate just below. It was still daylight out but the sun was quickly disappearing. I couldn’t wait to see the Rockefeller tree lit up.

Wilson mentioned what he and Christine would be wearing. It took some time but I found them and decided to sneak in a few shots before he got down on his knee.Wilson reserved the ice for 5 minutes. Once the rink cleared out, we got to work!I was concentrating incredibly hard not to fall on my face with my cameras when I got the shot. Wilson got on one knee and thousands watching went crazy!
