I got a call from Ting Yi (DP Studio) several weeks ago and she asked if I wanted to help her photograph Bally’s new collection. My response, “uh… yeah!” She mentioned the client and their requirements, which at the time seemed a bit out-of-scope considering that we were wedding photographers. We immediately started talking about the equipment and skilled talent needed to pull off a successful shoot. After Ting Yi’s careful preparation and planning, we rocked the project!
Initial impression: Uncertain.
Conclusion: Fast paced, awesome personalities (stylists, artists, models), incredibly passionate creative individuals chasing after their passions.
Wow, that was fun. Of all the world regions I have been fortunate to visit in the past, the Mayan Riviera ranks really high on my LOVE list. Weddings in foreign countries are always a challenge. Our team never has much time to scout out locations and we’re always battling the lack of sleep and high-intense work environment, but we love it! From the cold concrete of New York City to the hot sand of the Mayan Riviera, the flight was fast and had us in Mexico in 3.5 hours.
If you hang out with me long enough eventually you’ll hear someone refer to me as Scuba Steve. Back in 2006 I made a personal trip out to Mexico to just dive. I dove the reefs of Cancun, the underwater canyons in Belize, though what impressed me the most were the cenote caves of Tulum. Frequently featured on Discovery or National Geographic channel, the water found here is said to be the clearest in the world. A natural underground freshwater river system runs underneath the entire Mayan Riviera region and can be accessed via these cenotes, translated in English as sinkholes. Fast forward to months before their wedding, Jan and Terrence were ecstatic at my idea to photograph in this unknown world wonder.
With the help of our contact in Mexico, Priya, Kosuke and I were able to capture some of the most exciting images we believe that we have ever taken. At moments during the photoshoot I would take a moment to myself to realize how blessed I felt, doing what what I love for a living… traveling, diving, photographing, I never thought any of this was at all possible a few years ago. Last but by no means least, we hit our passion and the following morning captured them in their designer pajamas, a great end to a wonderful shoot.
Behind the Scenes
Welcome to our wonderful studio, named Saldana after someone very dear to me. We have a love of all things fashion on the photography that works so well to promote the industry. We have provided photographic services to many different areas of fashion through our years and have now taken to designs and creating our own clothing lines in our favorite area.
We have a love for pajamas especially those that we design for families. We have no idea where the love of pjs has sprung for but we do know that they are one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing you can wear. If most people had a choice of what their most comfortable clothing is it would be their pajamas. From when you wake up in them and head down to the couch for a relax if you are spending a day relaxing it is very difficult to get out those pajamas.
We do not know about you but I am sure many of you like us would have seen people still in there pjs when going to the shops. They do have a wonderfull degree of flexibility but even for us wearing them for shopping maybe taking things a step too far.
Because we also have a passion for photography and over the years have photographed just about every aspect of life we love putting on a fashion show for our amazing pj designs. Our designs are for all the family, parents and children and we also
have some that are especially made for certain couples that we will show here at a later date.
We hope you can join us on our new journey, we will still be engaging with our photography studio and business and enjoy expanding our fashion studio for night wear even further. Lets all enjoy the ride.
